The Department of Organic Chemistry has been founded with the Kiev Polytechnic Institute simultaneously in 1898. At the Faculty of Chemical Technology there were some departments dealing with organic chemistry and technology such as departments of technologies of fibrous and painting substances, organic technology, technology of organic and petrochemical synthesis, organic chemistry. The present Department has been formed due to reorganization and association of the predecessors. Pedagogical and scientific traditions in our Department formed by professor M.I.Konovalov (organic chemistry), professor V.G.Shaposhnikov (technology of fibrous materials and dyes), professor S.M.Reformatsky (organic chemistry), professor S.M.Fokin (technology of organic substances), professor M.O.Prilezhaev (organic chemistry) and professor F.N.Stepanov (technology of the organic and petrochemical synthesis). Graduates of our Department in all the periods of its existence always were broadly educated specialists in organic synthesis and technology of organic substances: dyes, pharmaceuticals, fine- and petrochemicals, solvents, monomers, etc. The Department of Organic Chemistry and Technology of Organic Substances (OH and ТОВ) National Technical University of Ukraine «Kiev polytechnical institute» (NTUU «KPI») prepares for specialists on a speciality «Chemical Technology of Organic Substances». The organic chemistry is a science which results to the greatest influence a life of a modern society. Polymeric materials, synthetic fibres, dyes, medical and veterinary preparations, detergents, agrochemicals, corrosion inhibitors, an oils and fuel additives, and other products are facilitate our life. These ones are achievements of organic chemistry and technology. Teachers of Department train our students not only to work at the manufactories, but also to create the new chemicals, technologies, and manufactures. Graduates of our Department are engineers-chemists of a wide area.

High broadly education on general scientific and chemical subjects, and especially in organic chemistry and synthesis, practice of chemical experiment under supervision of leading scientists of our Department and institutes of the Ukraine National Academy of Sciences, application of computer modelling for a prediction of organic substances properties, synthesis planning and manufactures designing, allows them to work successfully in research and project institutions, at the industrial companies, business concerns. Actually, several employment problems for graduates of our Department are not present. Moreover, is necessary to note, that a general chemical education of our graduates as a whole above, in comparison with chemists of other specialities. This one promotes increase of competitiveness on a labour market.
